In love with Florence
Hi! My name is Marta, I was born and raised in Florence and like all Florentines I think Florence is the most beautiful city in the world!
I know we seem a bit boastful because we have Dante, Giotto, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Leonardo, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, the Ponte Vecchio, the Medici, Vinsanto with Cantucci, Chianti, but we cannot take the blame for speaking real Italian and also having the most beautiful dome in the world that everyone is jealous of.
Do you know what Michelangelo said when he left for Rome to work on the dome of St. Peter’s? He said: ‘I’m going to Rome to make it the sister of Florence, bigger yes, but not more beautiful,’ and you know it’s not the size that counts!… Just kidding!.. You know, Florentines like to joke around, make fun of ourselves.
I like everything in the world, I like travelling, seeing different countries, eating insects in Asia and going to the forest in South America, but when the Florentines come home, they all say the same thing… “Oh, how beautiful my Florence is”!
